Fresh from the new Kepma Factory is a story-inspired Elite Series Grand Auditorium model that features a fresh new design and some amazingly cool tech.
But first, let’s talk acoustic guitar tone for a second because without it, nothing else matters. While we all know the vibrating “top” of the guitar is the main influence of tone, the wood used in the construction of the back and sides adds tonal flavor as well.
If you’re not familiar with Ovangkol as a tonewood, you’re missing out. Ovangkol, also known as Amazakoue, is a lesser-known tonewood that has gained popularity in recent years due to its tonal qualities and affordability compared to traditional tonewoods like rosewood and mahogany. Ovangkol typically exhibits a balanced tonal response with pronounced midrange frequencies. Its sound can be described as warm, with clear highs and a focused low end.
Tonal Characteristics of Ovangkol:
Midrange Focus: Ovangkol is renowned for its strong midrange presence, making it an excellent choice for players seeking a guitar sound that cuts through a mix without overpowering other instruments.
Balanced Tone: Unlike some tonewoods that emphasize specific frequency ranges, Ovangkol offers a balanced tonal spectrum, which contributes to its versatility across different playing styles and musical genres.
Clear Highs: Ovangkol produces crisp and articulate high frequencies, adding clarity to fingerstyle playing and melodic passages.
Warmth: Despite its clarity, Ovangkol retains a warm and inviting sound, making it suitable for a wide range of musical applications
Okay, now for the design story…
The design of this guitar was inspired by a poem that loosely translates to this quote… “I sought her a thousand times in the crowd, and suddenly turning back, I found her where the lamplight was sparse,” meaning that inspiration comes when least expected. When the lights fade, you find focus and truly can create something beautiful when not distracted by unnecessary diversions. The fretboard symbolizes the floors of a high-rise apartment building, and the inlays are the various lighting scenarios within that high-rise. You never know what is being created, but something is being created “when the lights fade".
Also, this guitar features some awesome new tech - the Kepma AcoustiFex® L1 Looper Pickup & FX System. It gives you the famous effects AcoustiFex® is known for, plus a Looper function, Drum Machine, Tuner, Metronome and selectable Tone Profiles for different playing styles. Plus, it’s super-intuitive and easy to use. You’ll also be able to record your low-light brilliance because of the dual-function USB-C charging/OTG recording port. It’s powered by a high-capacity long-life 18650 rechargeable battery which will give you over 20 hours of continuous playing time on a single charge.
But enough chatter, here are the specs…
